Jesus Christ! We have all heard it being used as a swear word, some of us if we are honest have used it ourselves in a moment of frustration but my question to you is why this word? Why this name? Wouldnt it make more sense to use a name of someone who was evil or bad? Hitler for example.
Swear words in most cases are actual words to describe something, they in fact have a meaning behind them, but the meaning has been distorted and manipulated. In the context of swear words they are fixed to cuss a situation circumstance or even people!
God has given us a name, and that name is Jesus Christ this name is above every name. This same name has so much power and authority over the forces of evil that it is feared and respected!
So now let me ask you a question? If you were Satan how would you prevent people understanding the power and authority in the name of Jesus? Simple, you would get people to misuse the name and encourage it to take on new meaning. To use Jesus Christ as a swear word is to deceive people of its meaning, purpose and power.
Every time you hear someone say the words Jesus Christ in that cringe worthy way let people know who he is and that he loves them! While it is used as a swear word its true purpose and meaning is lost and so are the people 9 out of 10 using it.
This has been a little thought.
Scriptures to think about
Proverbs 18:21 (Contemporary English Version) Words can bring death or life! Talk too much, and you will eat everything you say.
Acts 4:12 (Contemporary English Version) Only Jesus has the power to save! His name is the only one in all the world that can save anyone.
Ask yourself this question ? Are you grateful?
How do you feel when someone gives you something which you have done nothing to deserve, it's not even your birthday yet it's exactly what you need? Overjoyed, happy, thankful, appreciative, amazed? The problem as we know is that these feelings do not last, we even forget who got us the gift in the first place and how we got it etc. and the fact we didnt pay for it in a strange way makes us forget even quicker. We have the same issue in our spiritual life; we encounter spiritual amnesia.
How great was that grace when you first believed? How overjoyed were you when you gave your heart to Jesus and Jesus gave you his? What an exchange but where are you today complacent, lukewarm or on fire? We definitely don't deserve it but we definitely need it!. We have access to the throne room of God to experience his presence and this is all down to the Fathers great love and mercy. How many of us take this privilege for granted and are now victims of going through the motions? Religion without love is just a religious routine that lacks passion and zeal perhaps this is why Gods highest command to us is love. He wants a relationship not a marriage of convenience!.
We take God for granted and just think he will always be there for his word declares he will never leave us or forsake us. We need to get over ourselves and realise the creator of the heavens and earth is in love with us and we have the privilege to respond to that.
At this moment in time we are free to express ourselves to God and we have taken this freedom for granted. People all over the same earth we live on are still being tortured and murdered for just owning a bible let alone given the freedom to go to a place of worship to express their love for God!. How do you think these persecuted people would feel to have the same freedom that we take for granted as we mumble a few hymns? Lord help us.
Yet we moan, moan. moan, the music is too loud, the lights were too bright, I don't like this song, he said...she said. What have we become when we reduce ourselves to moaning hypocrites turning everything about church into everything about us? What happened to our hunger for the presence and love of God?
We need to wake up and stop moaning,! realising we are in a position of priviledge, serving a God and cause that many have died for. Those people would have done anything to have had the freedom to occupy the very seat that you keep warm in church.
We need to stop moaning and start rejoicing for the many free gifts salvation has brought us but not stop there... actually rejoice in the one who made all this possible.
How can we call ourselves Christians and treat others and the one who chose us to be his bride in such an unfaithful cold and unloving way?
Hebrews 12:28(New International Version)
Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe.
